What is the definition of homelessness?
Lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. Homeless living situations include:
• Sharing the housing of others due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason;
• Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations;
• Staying in emergency or transitional shelters
• Sleeping in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar settings.

The State Public Charter School Authority (SPCSA) is committed to supporting homeless children, youth, and unaccompanied youth in public charter schools to ensure they achieve the same high-quality academic standards expected of all children. SPCSA sponsored-schools are committed to removing barriers to the enrollment and retention of children, youth, and unaccompanied youth in homeless situations.

Foster Care Information

What is the definition of foster care?
Foster care (also known as out-of-home care) is a temporary service provided by States for children who cannot live with their families. Children in foster care may live with relatives or with unrelated foster parents. Foster care can also refer to placement settings such as group homes, residential care facilities, emergency shelters, and supervised independent living.
